Art, Galleries & Exhibitions

Nordanstig calls itself the region of artists and craftmanship. Here you will find everything you could wish for in terms of culture, traditions and new influences.

We have several fine art galleries. We also almost dare to say that we have Swedens only "drive-in" art gallery. You will find it in the village of Gnarp. Many of our art galleries also resides in historacly interesting buildings. Langsbo konsthall in Hassela has it´s exhibitions in an old, large barn, as a part of their majestic Hälsingland Farmhouse. The same applies for Morvig Art in Gnarp, at their farmhouse. Konsthantverk Hamnmagasinet in Mellanfjärden is an old harbour storage magazine which has been adjusted for modern purposes. Sjöboden i Stocka is an old boat house by the harbour in Stocka that is reformed to a show room and boutique. Helsinglight - a former school building in Vattlång which today is a magical haven for art, expressions, courses in make-up and mask-making. And furthermore, the old district jail house Häktet in Bergsjö, where our local artist Jöran Österman regularly shows exhibitions.

Check out our eventpage, where all upcoming exhibitions are presented and posted!

More about art and our artists and handicrafters

Besides the galleries we mentioned above, there are a lot of handicrafters with their own studios, who gladely shows their creations at home on their own premises. Get in contact and make an appointment!

We also have a local art association, Nordanstigs Konstförening (link opens in new window), with the purpose of:

  • spreading good art and creations made by local artists through the purchases the association makes and then do a raffle amongst it´s members.
  • Conduct local exhibitions.
  • work to enhance the significance of art as an important part of the local culture community.
  • Thrive to slowly, but purposely buy public art to exhibit in public and official outdoor spaces.

The association was founded in 1989 and is a member of the national Swedish Art Association.

The late artist couple Gunnar Greiber & Else Nyström Greiber

Gunnar Greiber and his wife Else Nyström Greiber bequeathed about a thousand artworks/paintings to Nordanstigs Municipality. Today you can take part and oversee the artworks via website: nordanstig.se. Their art is catalouged and are available via pdf-files, with a picture and are numbered. Most of their art are stored in an archive but some are exposed locally at public display. Some are also lend out for other public display.

Gunnar Greiber´s scholarship fond has the assignment to manage the collection. About 250 artworks has been selected as a representative collection of Gunnar Greibers artistic life and will remain in custody by the municipality. Besides these, about 100 artworks is to be offered to museums, companies or instituitions in geographic proxomity to Nordanstig, as gifts or to be lended. Some will also be sold, and there is still artwork for public sale. Read more via website: kommunens webbplats >>>
