Bodmyran - nature reserve

på Gnarp
Welcome to this protected area in Gnarp.

Bodmyran is one of the country’s northernmost concentric bogs. It is a dome-shaped bog with a distinct central high point. To the north and east of the bog lies a series of steeply sloping fens. There are no trails in the area, so you are free to roam at will. The flora and birdlife offer wonderful nature experiences.

Growing in the bog is *Tofieldia pusilla* (Scottish asphodel), an herb with small, whitish flowers; it is unusual to find them growing this far east. The area covers 112 hectares and is located 8 kilometers west of Gnarp. South of Bodmyran lies Åsvallen, a large summer pasture site.

The marshland was once part of the summer pasture’s grazing lands and was used for both haymaking and grazing. Today, only traces remain in the form of forest shaped by grazing near the pasture site.

Wildlife in Bodmyran
Bodmyran is valuable for a multitude of species, particularly birdlife. Species observed in the area include the Eurasian curlew, wood sandpiper, yellow wagtail, common snipe, and Ural owl. Northern lapwings and green sandpipers have been known to nest there, and black grouse can be seen performing their mating displays.

The wood sandpiper, a wading bird, thrives in wetlands and feeds on insects and crustaceans.
